What happens in Re'eh
'See, I set before you today blessing and curse' — the choice is real and it is yours. Re'eh centralizes worship in 'the place God will choose,' warns against false prophets, restates kashrut, and legislates generosity: the tithe, the seventh-year release of debts, and the command to open your hand to the poor — 'do not harden your heart.' Give, the Torah adds, and don't let your heart be grudging when you do.

If this is your bar or bat mitzvah portion
The parsha commands not just giving but giving without resentment — the heart matters, not only the check. Many families mark a bar or bat mitzvah with a tzedakah project; Re'eh is its charter: open your hand, and open it gladly.
